The Community Based Services Department
Introduction
Community based services department is mandated to foster the development of communities and to bridge the gap between them through delivery of government services by mobilizing, empowering, and providing welfare services to community based groups, vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, particularly women, children and persons with disabilities, the elderly and the youth to participate in community development activities and to benefit from the from the services of the department and
other agencies of development in order to achieve gender equity and meaningful socio-cultural and economic development.
Services in the department are therefore provided under the following sections
- Department head concerned with general administration and NGO/CBO registration.
- Community development (FAL Programme & Gender and Culture).
- Probation and Youth.
- Rehabilitation (disabilities and culture).
- Labor and industrial relations
The department is not adequately staffed. Through its nature, the various sub sectors of the department work in hand in hand with the other departments.
Community Development is heavily involved in organizing and mobilizing people when improving and maintaining roads,
the community development sub sector is also fully involved in NAADS programme and the department of Production and Marketing.
The sectors of probation, welfare and rehabilitation work closely with the department of Education and Sports through
integrating juveniles and disabled into the mainstream of life and thus education.
Labor sub sector endeavors to attain a sustainable livelihood
through freely chosen productive employment and work for both men and women.

Community Based Services is regularly involved in mobilizing and training the local people on sound health practices.
